What our door installation service includes
We install fiberglass and steel entry doors (with or without sidelights and transoms), sliding patio doors, French and garden doors, storm and screen doors, and interior pre-hung doors during remodels. Specialty entries — arched tops, custom widths, double-door entries — are absolutely doable.
Every install includes squaring the rough opening, proper sill pan and flashing, low-expansion foam around the frame, weatherstrip adjustment, deadbolt and lockset install, and exterior trim or aluminum capping to seal the perimeter. Doors are checked to swing freely, latch cleanly, and seal tight against the weatherstrip.
We can also handle hardware upgrades on existing doors — new locksets, smart locks, weatherstrip replacement, threshold adjustment, and storm door additions.
Common problems homeowners face
Most of the door problems we get called for trace back to one of three things: a poorly squared install (door rubs, gap at the top, won't latch), bad weatherstripping (cold air pours in along the bottom or sides), or rotted thresholds and frames at the bottom from years of water exposure.
Patio doors have their own set of issues — sliders that bind because the rollers are shot, frames that have racked because the original install wasn't shimmed properly, and broken seals on the glass leading to fogging.
Storm-damaged doors from break-ins, kids slamming, or just old hardware giving up are also a regular call.

The benefits of hiring a professional
A new entry door upgrades curb appeal, security, and energy efficiency at the same time — few other improvements deliver on all three. Quality fiberglass doors don't dent, don't rust, won't warp, and hold their finish for decades.
Properly sealed patio doors stop the constant draft along the floor, dramatically reduce heat loss in winter, and improve safety with modern multi-point locking. Smooth-operating sliders also just make the back of your house more enjoyable to use.
And there's the security angle — newer doors come with reinforced strike plates, multi-point locks, and pry-resistant frames that older doors simply don't have.
Why Harmsway Construction is the right choice for door installation
Harmsway Construction installs doors with the same attention to flashing, sealing, and finish that we apply to windows. The rough opening is squared, the sill is flashed, the frame is foamed, and the exterior is capped or trimmed so water can never sneak in behind.
Because we also do siding, trim, and capping, the new door integrates cleanly with your existing exterior — no awkward transitions, no exposed gaps, no rusted nails showing through five years later.
Local, accountable, and finished right the first time. If your door ever needs an adjustment, you have our number.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a door install take? A standard entry or patio door is typically a 3–6 hour job. Custom or oversized openings take longer.
Should I get fiberglass or steel? Both are good. Fiberglass is dent-resistant and a better insulator; steel is more affordable and very secure. We'll help you decide.
Can you replace just the slab? Sometimes — depends on the existing frame condition. Full pre-hung replacement is usually a better long-term value.
Do you install smart locks? Yes — we install most major brands.
